OSU Business Services

Oregon State University Business Services
The business services department at OSU over-looked a group of departments, in essence it was the head to a group of departments that would make up its body. Those departments included; Campus Freight, Campus Recycling, Contract Office, Inventory Control, Motor Pool, Procurement and Contract Services, Printing and Mailing, Risk Management, and Surplus Property.

Their Mission
To support the teaching and research efforts of the University by applying continuous quality improvement techniques throughout our processes, we strive for excellence in quality with each and every service we provide. We continually monitor our customers’ needs and are committed to employ innovative technologies in the most effective and efficient manner possible.

Recycling LogoMy Role
Just about everything I did working for Business services was internal under the radar things. For the most part I would work on database management and web output to make it easier to understand and more organized.

Contact Info: An example of this would be the contact info (links to the current page using the back and front end coding I created) page I developed for them which has a back end linked to a (at the time and probably still MS Access database) which allowed for adding new employees, their contact information, email addresses; the ability to put them as private or even list Contact Infothem as on vacation. It kept track of which department they were in and their "rank" on the chain indicated by their position. I also created the front end display for the web with easy sorting options and a printable version option.Service requests

Recycling Service Request:
The recycling pick-up materials (links to current form) form was also something that I worked on. The idea was to make a fool-proof request form that would add a service request to a database acting as a service queue (which is then checked by the appropriate recycling staff) to know of any special service requests such as; missed paper, cardboard pick-up, excessive amounts of shredded paper, office clean-outs and so on. These requests would then be responded to within one business days time. This attempted to keep the recycling levels high and prompt. The complexity of this form was in its ability to have a drop down menu that only allowed the user to select from actions that would be performed on the specific materials selected.

Visual Cleaning:
during my tenure I implemented small things to clean up large pages as well, such as clam shell menus and collapsible FAQ question pages (links to current page).

Along with that I acted as an I.T. consultant and assisted in many tasks such as; Web site development and maintenance, Design projects, Consultation, Ideation of new projects and warehouse management improvement suggestions.

Web Design SEO Business Services Websites SEO Business Services Websites SEO Business Services Websites SEO Business Services Websites SEO Business Services Websites SEO Business Services Websites Web site
I was in charge of all the web sites for business services excluding printing and mailing. While I was there I developed the CSS style sheet and site design that the current site is based off. Below you can see images of my designs which were implemented after I started working for athletics.

Recycle BinRecycle Bins
One of my most noticed pieces of work while I was at business services were ten thousand (10,000) green recycle bins that I designed for offices and dorms. Campus Recycling wanted a recognizable bin that would be placed in every office and dorm on campus which would serve as vessel for recyclables. Design included the logo and working with the manufacturer to get printing done correctly. It was a one color vinyl print impression to save on cost.

Vehicle Magnets
The motor pool and surplus property approached me because they had recently purchased bio-diesel vehicles and wanted to display that on the side to promote earth awareness. I developed a logo/word mark which was then printed on a UV resistant vinyl attached to a heavy duty magnet.

I worked on many different print designs as well, including the bio-diesel initiative brochure that was given to the governor's aides during their visit to campus. Various temporary projects for all of the business services departments.
